The Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), which grew to its current size in 1991 with the privatization of the OCB, covers 4,500 hectares. Each year, more than 137,000 tons of bananas and 14,000 tons of pineapples are loaded onto Compagnie Fruitiere vessels in the port of Douala.

PHP also grows one of the best peppers in the world--“Haut Penja pepper”--which has a powerful and highly aromatic flavour.

With 6,000 employees, the Compagnie Fruitiere is the largest private employer in the country.
